RAG RUG
This is my first rug from the frame that I got from Missouri Town. I used a brown fabric and added some colors that blended well.
It got a bit wavy, especially in the middle, but I'm hoping that it will work itself out.
I wove it pretty tight so it was a bit hard to get out of the frame.
The rug fabrics are also the same that I used on my table runner.
It looks good on the floor.

AND THEN MY SECOND RUG...
This one I wove looser and used random bits of fabric.
It lays nice and I really like the multi color look. It took me a few days to cut the fabric and 6 days to weave. Do you think I'm a bit obsessive when I'm working on a new project? This pretty rug goes to my sister.

Obsessive can be a good thing when you want to get something done! Rag rugs are not easy to craft, for sure. These rugs are so nice and such a perfect size. How wonderful the new rug looks in your gorgeous dining area...love the floor!

DeleteCinders, you have really been busy with your rug frame. The rugs turned out very nice and I love the colors. It makes a perfect size. I also like no fringe. I have a rag rug, but the fringe is always tangled and doesn't lay nicely. You will have to give me a lesson!
ReplyDeleteYes I like them without fringe also. I would be glad to give you a lesson. My sister is also interested in learning. Do you remember the rug at the Gore Psychiatric Museum? I'm thinking about making one like that. Also I have wool scrapes left over and will try my hand at that for my son. He just moved into a new place. Ohhh so much fun!
DeleteI think I still have a book on twined rag rugs somewhere. Interesting technique which made nice rugs for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Twining was easy until I came to the ends and would occasionally get mixed up on what strips goes first. I finally got the hang of it.
DeleteVery nice and quite colorful! I've been thinking of crocheting a rag rug; I don't know anything about weaving rugs.
ReplyDeleteI have crocheted rugs before and love the looks of them, but I have a wrist that doesn't like that motion and will bother me for some time. Weaving is easier for me.
DeleteYes I really enjoyed making them. It was not hard at all. I spent a couple of days cutting strips. They are joined together in a special way and I will show that on my next post so you can see. The best part about the frame is that there are 2 rods that run down the length that you weave over so that the rug does not become a hour glass shape. The only sewing is at the very end when the last strips are joined together. The weaving method is called twining. The gentleman that I bought the frame from says he uses old sheets, as they make long strips. I'll do a tutorial soon.
